Antenatal and postnatal management of posterior urethral valves: where do we stand?

Abstract Introduction Posterior urethral valve (PUV) is the leading etiology of lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) in boys and an important cause end-stage renal disease (ESRD) children. The aim this article to review current status on antenatal intervention for PUV as well postnatal medical surgical management. Main body MEDLINE, EMBASE, Pubmed Google Scholar search was conducted throughout December 2020 using keywords: posterior valves, congenital obstruction, antenatal, bladder syndrome, medical, anticholinergics, alpha blocker, antibiotics, biofeedback, diversion, augmentation cystoplasty transplantation. Only papers written English were included. relevant literature summarized. Despite advances fetal LUTO, it remains associated with considerable maternal morbidity. Patient selection criteria are greatly debated. Fetal has resulted improved perinatal survival properly selected cases, a questionable benefit function. There decent evidence supporting use anticholinergics infants young children following ablation, less robust advocating blockers, overnight catheter drainage biofeedback. role diversion contentious.
